How To Prevent Oily Skin

Oily skin can be frustrating for anyone because it makes your face look shiny in photographs and it increases the chances that your pores are going to be clogged and cause acne. Luckily, oily skin is an easy problem to fix or at least manage. Here are some tips for reducing the oil on your skin.

1. Reduce the Number of Times You Wash Your Face Each Day

Your skin is going to produce some oil regardless of what you do. This oil is designed to protect the skin and make sure that any irritants and possible invaders are carried away or at least trapped on the surface of your skin. If you keep washing your face, you remove all of the oil so your skin goes into overdrive trying to replace it. This can result in skin that is oilier than usual. To deal with this, simply stop washing your face as often, and when you do wash your face, make sure that you only wash it with mild cleansers that are not going to irritate your skin and cause it to produce even more oil. Resist the temptation to wash your face more than once a day for a few weeks until your oil production levels return to normal.

2. Don't Wash Your Face With Cold Water

If you wash your face with cold water, your skin is going to dry out. This is going to be a problem because many moisturizers have oil in them to make sure that your skin retains as much moisture as possible. However, if you leave the dry skin on your face untreated, your body is going to produce additional oil to compensate for the lack of moisture. You are in an unpleasant situation that can only be dealt with by avoiding it in the first place. Washing your face with lukewarm water will help you prevent it from drying out.

3. Drink Water

Finally, do everything that you can to remain hydrated in order to ensure that your face has enough moisture in it to prevent too much oil from being created. Carry a bottle of water around with you wherever you go in order to remind yourself to drink more water and to deprive yourself of any excuses to not drink water.
